The Trophy Cabinet Overflows at 2015-2016 Season Celebration

The sun shone down on Surbiton Chess Club members and their families as they celebrated the club's record breaking 2015-2016 successes at Fircroft on 17th July 2016.

The full club roll of honour meriting celebration was as follows:-

- Thames Valley Division 1 Champions. Outright champions this time after sharing the title (our first ever Division 1 title after 66 years!) with Wimbledon last season.

- Thames Valley Division 3 Champions. We shared the title with Maidenhead A, who finished with an identical record. Surbiton C are promoted to Divison 2 next season.

- Thames Valley Knock-out Cup Winners 2015 and 2016. We have now had three cup wins in a row having only ever won it once (by default!) before the current sequence.

- Surrey Ellam Trophy (Second Division) Winners. This now means that our first and second teams are in the top divisions of both the Thames Valley and Surrey leagues. Another first!

To commemorate this wonderful run of success the club presented individual trophies to each member of the winning teams. A total of 78 individual trophies were required!

There was also an opportunity to present Rajeiv Ratnesan with the Tommy Dunne Trophy. This was awarded by Surrey County Chess Association for the best percentage score for an U-16 junior in the Surrey league competitions.

As part of the celebration there was also a raffle to raise money for Fircroft Trust. We are please to report that over £ 300 was raised for the charity. Thank you to everyone who contributed.
