Club Handicap Tournament – 29/12/2010
On the 29th December our club hosted another of our Chess
Handicap Tournaments.
Those that know Martin Durrant will not be surprised
to hear that, prior to the tournament, Martin felt certain he would win it
comfortably!
Martin was a little concerned that it would not be fair to Chris
Briscoe if he had a time advantage over him and elected to play 10 mins per
side. Martin's confidence, alas, was misplaced and exchanging pieces
incorrectly in a promising position sealed his fate and lost.
Martin did go on to win his next 6 games and ran out the winner of the
tournament with 6/7 with Chris Briscoe and Edgar Flacker
coming 2nd equal with 5/7.
Notable games were Martin Nightingale’s well earned win v Chris Briscoe and Roy
Prangel’s excellent tactics v Edgar to secure a draw.
I was the tail ender with 1/7 but my games and blunders caused great amusement
for the spectators. Thank god I play slightly better slow play!
